Our driver will be waiting for you when you arrive in Tangier by ferry. He will inform you of the itinerary for the desert tour that you will take after Tangier. As we travel toward Meknes, we will make a stop at the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis. Here, we will explore the 2000-year-old ruins and explore the history of the Roman Empire. Once in Meknes, visitors are greeted by a breathtaking view of the Medina; we then continue our stroll through the city’s stables (Rua), attics (HERI), and stud, stopping at the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, which for a while was the only mosque in Morocco that non-Muslims were permitted to visit. Following that, go to the renowned Bab Mansour El in the huge Hedim square. The Museum of Moroccan Art “Dar Jamai” is located on the opposite side of the square and offers a wide selection of handicrafts. Dinner and Overnight in a Riad.
Day 2: Meknes-Azrou /Medilt-Todra Gorges
Immediately following breakfast, we must travel through the middle of the Atlas Mountains to Todra Gorges. In the Cedars Forest, we’ll make a pit stop to feed the monkeys and take some photos. We’ll have lunch in Medilte village. We continue on as we pass through the Atlas Mountains, taking in the view. Moving on, passing through a few small villages until we arrive at Todra Gorges just before sunset. There you will have Dinner, and spend the night in a nice hotel in a valley between mountains.
Day 3: Todra Gorges-Rissani-Merzouga “Erg Chebbi”
You will go for a walk in the gorges following your typical delicious Moroccan breakfast. Our first stop will be the ‘Todra Gorges’ for a panoramic view as we continue on our way to Merzouga. Before reaching Merzouga, we make a brief stop in Rissani for a lunch break. Berber Pizza is a popular local dish in this city. You’ll get there before sunset because it’s fun to enjoy the sunset on camels. Your camel guide will be waiting for you so that you can ride across and take in the sunset’s beauty. After a two-hour trek, set up camp in the desert and spend the night there in a Berber tent. Following dinner, there will be a fire-camp and drumming, and we’ll listen to songs performed by the Southern Moroccan Berber Nomads.
Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Ziz Valley – Medilt – Fez
Early morning walks to the dunes to witness the magnificent sunrise are followed by breakfast in the camp, packing, and a 4×4 ride back home, leaving the dunes behind. We will travel through Erfoud, Errachidia, and Midelte as we make our way through the High Atlas Mountains in the direction of Fez. Before reaching Fez, we will have a brief photo stop in a panoramic setting.
Day 5: Fez “Medina Guide Tour” Tanger
You will explore Fez with a native guide, the city of numerous Moroccan art pieces. You will visit mosques, including the Quaraouiyine Mosque, founded in 859 by Fatima el Fihri, and the Andalusian Mosque, dating back to 860. Non-Muslims are not permitted to enter. Souks such as Souk Attarine, one of the city’s liveliest, and Bab Boujloud, known for its green and blue ceramics. After lunch, depart towards Tangier. We drop in at the port or your hotel.
